Dance Documentary

Logline: To capture the dance cluster at Booker T in their creative zone and teach the audience how to get into the cluster and what it's about.

I want the dancing to tell the story. I want it to open up to low lighting, and dancers dancing fearlessly and have them focused in their work. Then I want Ms. Walker to start talking about what the cluster is about while showing clips of the things done in class and the interactions the dancers have with each other. I'll get an interview from a dancer, Margaret Canady (probably) and not directly show her face but instead have clips of her dancing while she speaks about her experience. It should end with the dancers not dancing at all. Maybe just they're interactions and how close they are. The final scene should be the end of a dance number when they clap once the class ends and they have their own signature "applause" which is them beating on the marley dance floor.

Amy documentary directed by Asif Kapadia

Amy is a documentary that documents Amy Winehouse's early lie up until her death. It tells of all her success and the struggles she had with her family, relationships and her consistent substance abuse. It was directed by the British director Asif Kapadia who also directed the documentary Senna that also received a lot of praise. Amy recently won a grammy for best music film. What was very interesting about the style of Asif's documentaries is that he uses archived footage recorded and lets that tell the story. There was nothing that Asif recorded himself except for the audio of some friends and family whose faces are never shown unless they're with Amy. Amy Winehouse really is the center of it all, it almost feels as if Amy's telling her story with her own words and her music. The music is very essential in the film because each song she's written describes an event in her life. Amy says in the film that she'd never write a song with an experience she hasn't been through because she wouldn't know how to tell the story right. It's very evident in the film because the lyrics are shown during the times of trouble. Asif also collects various images of where she wrote her music. It's almost full of a collection of amateur videos recorded by Amy and her friends. This made it much more personal. I'd love to incorporate similar styles in the dance documentary in which the dancers tell their own story, there won't be a video of anyone just talking, I'd do an over voice of them talking about dance. Their movement should tell the story about the dance cluster at Booker T.
